Chapter 31 - Arabella

Was is possible to cry so much, there are no more tears left to cry? Arabella felt that way. After she had run up to her room, slamming the door behind her, she cried until she couldn't cry anymore. Arabella had collapsed on her bed, her whole body shaking with sobs. He was going to leave her. He hated spending time with her. She was just a burden to him. He would rather be on the streets than be with her. Arabella didn't bother changing out of her bikini. She just laid on her bed and wept. Arabella had spent so many months alone but Hunter came back into her life for a moment and she hoped that she wouldn't be alone anymore. But here he was, telling her that he couldn't wait to get on with his life. When she thought that she couldn't cry anymore, Arabella pushed herself off of her bed and went to sit by the window. She could see the ocean from where she was sitting but it just made her sad. Everything made her sad. Everything reminded her of Hunter. Arabella put her forehead against the glass and closed her tired eyes. It wasn't long before she heard Hunter walking up the stairs and going into his room. Arabella took a shaky breath and rubbed her eyes before crawling into her bed. It was late and she needed to try and get at least a little bit of sleep. Arabella laid on top of her blankets, still in her bikini and fell asleep.

She didn't get much sleep that night. Whenever she drifted off into an uneasy sleep, she would hear Hunter snapping at her again and she would wake up in tears. When the sun started to rise, Arabella decided to get up. Her bikini was starting to feel pretty uncomfortable and she just wanted to get some coffee. Arabella stood up, pulling on a pair of loose shorts and a tee shirt. With a small sigh, she walked out of her room and padded down the hall in bare feet. The house was quiet and she wondered if Hunter was still asleep. Cautiously, she pushed the door to her brother's room open and she peaked inside. With a little shock, she saw that Hunter wasn't sleeping on the bed, he was sleeping on the floor. Arabella looked at him for a moment before closing the door with a small click. Arabella stood there briefly, but then she was over come by tears. Hunter was a mess. He couldn't even sleep on a bed. Arabella felt guilty for what she had said the night before. She was angry about what he had said to her, but her heart was broken for him. He didn't deserve any of this.

Arabella turned and walked down the stairs, trying to hold back her tears. She stepped into the kitchen and saw the menu on the fridge. With a little sigh, Arabella quickly made a cup of coffee for herself. Eventually, she walked out of the house to look at the paint job that Hunter did last night. It was really wonderful. Arabella looked up at the side of the house, kind of shocked actually. Had he really done everything that she asked him to? Arabella didn't think that he would. Nervously, she walked back into the house and towards the stairs. They were done and they looked beautiful. Her stomach twisted with guilt and nerves and just as she was about to walk away from the stairs, she saw Hunter exit his room and walk to the top of the stairs. The two of them looked at each other for a moment before Arabella turned and walked into the kitchen and sat down with her coffee. Eventually, Hunter followed her and he walked to the fridge, pulling out everything that he would need for Arabella's favorite breakfast, fruit salad. There was an awkward silence that filled the room as Hunter chopped and Arabella sipped her coffee. She wanted to say something to him, but she didn't know what to say. Instead, she looked down at the table and tried to think of something else as Hunter mixed everything together.

"Here's your breakfast, Ms. Foster" Hunter said in a quiet voice, placing the bowl in front of her. Arabella jumped slightly when he spoke. All she could do was not slightly at him. It was like her voice just wasn't working. She was worried that if she spoke, she would burst into tears. "I'll be working on the floors if you need anything" he added in the same quiet voice before walking away. She took a couple bite of her salad, but she couldn't finish it. Her stomach was too twisted up in nerves. Arabella put her plate in the sink and the left overs in the fridge. She then walked over and grabbed the pain supplies and headed outside.

As she painted that day, she thought about so many things. Did Hunter really mean what he said? Was he really just going to leave after all of this? The thought made her feel more lonely than ever. What was she going to do without Hunter in her life? He meant so much to her. Clearly, she didn't mean that much to him. Arabella had to stop her painting, more than once, because she had started crying again. Arabella didn't pay much attention to what time is was or anything really. She just painted and painted and painted. Her arms were sore from the work and her eyes were dry and puffy from all of the crying. Arabella finished up the wall after a few hours and she stood back to look at her work. She had done a good job, but she couldn't really appreciate it. Not when she was thinking about Hunter. Arabella took a deep breath and walked inside, leaving her sunglasses on so that Hunter wouldn't see that she had been crying.

"I'm going to take a shower" Arabella said softly to him. Hunter looked up from his work and he nodded once.

"Yes, Ms. Foster" Hunter said to her. His voice felt restricted, more than it usually did "I'll start cooking supper soon" he added. Arabella nodded then slipped up the stairs and into the bathroom. She stayed in the shower for quite a while. Arabella just couldn't bring herself to leave and face Hunter again. Things were so awkward and she just couldn't do it. Arabella took a deep breath, realizing something. She didn't care if Hunter didn't want to spend time with her. She wasn't going to ruin this weekend. Even if he didn't want to stay with her after this, he was still her friend and he meant the entire world to her. Arabella needed to swallow her pride and talk to him. Once she had used up all of the hot water, Arabella stepped out of the shower, quickly drying herself off and throwing on a pair of  shorts from Victoria's Secret and a loose tee shirt. Arabella pulled her hair up into a bun, put some cream on her face and slowly walked down the stairs. Her stomach was in knots but she kept walking. She saw Hunter in the kitchen, his back to her. He was busy cooking and he didn't notice her walking in. Arabella took a deep breath and walked over to him.

"Hunter?" Arabella asked and when Hunter turned to look at her, she threw her arms around his neck, pulling herself close to him. She could feel him stiffen for a moment, but she didn't let go of him. More tears started to call from her cheeks and she closed her eyes. She couldn't lose him and even if he didn't want to stay with her, she was going to make sure that he was still in her life "Please don't leave me, Hunter" she whispered, her voice breaking off. Arabella held him close to her, waiting for him to hug her back but he didn't. His arms just hung at his sides.

"I'm not going to leave, Ms.Foster, we haven't finished the house yet" Hunter said to her. His voice was quiet and stiff. Arabella took a small breath and let go of him. Hunter didn't even look her in the eyes, he just turned back to the food that he was making. Arabella looked at him for a moment. Why did this have to happen? She was finally happy and things were going so well for her, but something always had to go wrong. Arabella turned and walked out of the kitchen and towards the living room. She sat down on the window sill, pulling her knees up to her chest. Arabella didn't know how to feel anymore. She was angry at Hunter for wanting to leave her and saying everything that he did say to her. She was sad that he was leaving. She felt guilty; she was sure that she had done something wrong, something to push him away. Arabella didn't know how long she had been sitting at the window exactly, but she watched as the sun started to set. The house was so quiet, the only sounds were a few noises coming from the kitchen where Hunter was cooking.

"Dinner is ready, Ms. Foster" Hunter said to her from the kitchen. Arabella nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard his voice. She was so lost in a little daze. Shaking herself, she nodded and walked towards the kitchen. Arabella looked down at the plate that was placed at her spot on the table. It looked wonderful. Everything he cooked looked wonderful. With a small sigh, Arabella sat down. She wasn't too hungry, really. But she sat down and started picking at it, taking small nibbles. Hunter sat down across from her. Arabella noticed that she sat up straighter, like he was trying to seem professional. They ate in silence, hardly even looking at each other. Arabella ate about half of her food when she stood up and put the plate on the counter.

"I'm going for a swim" Arabella stated, washing her hands. She looked over at Hunter who was looking at her, his eyes slightly wide.

"It's dark now, isn't that a little dangerous?" Hunter said to her in a cautious voice. Arabella raised her eyebrows at him. She felt a wave of anger at him. He was going to leave her, but he was concerned about her safety?

"Hm? What was that?" Arabella asked him, folding her arms across her chest. Hunter let out a little sigh that was barely audible.

"Nothing, Ms.Foster" Hunter replied, standing up and taking his dishes to the sink. Arabella walked towards the door and took her hair out of the bun, letting if fall in loose waves down her back.

"Yeah, I didn't think so" Arabella said, her voice was a little harsh "I'll be swimming if you need me" she said, taking her shirt off to reveal her bikini top. She looked at him and raised an eyebrow, as if she was testing him. She then turned and left, walking towards the water.
