Chapter 21 - Arabella

As the movie played, Arabella slipped her designs back into her binder. She yawned and laid down on the couch, putting her head by Hunter's leg. Arabella pulled the blanket off the back of the couch and spread it over her legs. It was so comfortable, sitting there and watching a movie with Hunter. It felt natural and easy. After the movie played for about 30 minutes, Arabella turned her head to look up at Hunter briefly.

"You don't have to sleep on the couch tonight if you don't want to" Arabella said to him in a soft voice "My spare room has a couch that pulls out into a bed. This couch isn't that great for sleeping on" she added and looked up at Hunter and he nodded in response.

"That sounds good" Hunter said in his quiet voice. He looked down at her for a quick moment. Her head was very, very close to his leg and he looked back at the movie, his cheeks turning a little pink. Arabella didn't notice though and she moved to sit up, curling her legs under her. Without meaning too, she was sitting right beside Hunter, but she didn't move away. Arabella could feel his warmth and it felt good

"So, Hunter. Since you're not a hunter anymore and you're not a virgin for life anymore" Arabella said with a little scoff. She had always teased him about being a virgin forever "Have you.....met any girls?" she asked with with a wiggle of her eyebrows. Arabella expected him to blush, tell her to mind her own business or act really awkward. But Hunter didn't take his eyes off of the movie screen, he didn't react to her question at all

"Plenty" Hunter replied with a shrug, like it was the most casual question in the world. Arabella looked at him, stunned. Was he serious? She knew that he was a guy and all but he was still Hunter and the last thing she expected him to say was 'plenty'

"Oh..uhm...wow" Arabella said, kind of speechless. Why did she blush when he responded? Why did her stomach clench? Was that...jealousy? No, it couldn't be. This is Hunter. Arabella is supposed to love him like a sister loves a brother. Sisters are not supposed to get jealous of the girls that her brother has been with. Ew "I guess my Hunter is a man now" she teased, nudging him

"Oh, what? You mean..in a romantic way?" Hunter asked her, he cheeks turning slightly pink again when he saw how close she was too him "None, then" he answered her and turned back to look at the movie. The tightness in Arabella's stomach suddenly disappeared and her body seemed to relax a bit more. Wait..why?! Since when was she like this with Hunter? To keep herself busy, Arabella unfolded herself from the couch and walked into the kitchen, looking in the fridge and the freezer then finally the cupboards. Not for the first time, Arabella wished that she knew how to cook, at least the basics. She could hardly cut a carrot without nearly cutting her fingers off. With a sigh, she tossed a bag of popcorn into the microwave and put a kettle of water on. Once the popcorn was done and the water was boiled, she walked back into the living room with a bowl, the popcorn, two tea mugs and the pot of water with a couple of tea bags. Arabella set it down on the coffee table then sat down on the couch, crossing her legs.

They sat in silence together as the movie played, sipping tea and munching on popcorn. Arabella didn't say anything, but she wondered if Hunter was actually watching the movie or if he was thinking about other things. Her mind was racing, trying to figure things out but she kept coming up confused. Why had she dreamed of Hunter kissing her? Demi-god dreams always mean something, so what did this mean? Why did she feel relief when Hunter told her that he hadn't been with any girls? It wasn't like he was interested in her. they used to flirt and all of that, sure, but their relationship was never complicated before. It seemed so easy when nothing could happen between them.

When the movie ended, Arabella walked down the hall with Hunter and showed him the spare room. With his help (well, with him doing most of the work), the couch was pulled out into a bed and Arabella quickly made it up with sheets and a blanket and lots of pillows

"If you need me..I'll be just down the hall" Arabella said to him and before he could respond, she pulled him into a hug, wrapping her arms around his body. Then, with red cheeks, she whispered a good night and slipped off down the hall to her bedroom. Trying not to think of her confused feelings, Arabella pulled on her pajamas and slid into her warm bed, looking out the window. She didn't think that sleep would come easy to her that night, but eventually her eyes closed and she drifted off to sleep.
