Chapter 14 - Hunter

Things were so calm as they sat there. He wasn’t sure how he felt about living with her, now that he knew that she and Brian weren’t together. Now that he knew she was single. He felt comfortable flirting with her and joking around with her when he was a hunter and she was taken. He was comfortable when he knew nothing could happen. Now, he was nervous. “Umm…Pizza.” Hunter said clearing his throat. “Pizza actually sounds REALLY good.” He said quietly. It had been at least a year since he had had pizza worth anything. There was nothing like a good pizza.
“Pepperoni, okay?” She said as she picked up her phone. Hunter nodded and pressed a speed dial. She ordered the pizza and hung up the phone. “It’ll be here in about 20 minutes.” She said as she sat down right next to him. Hunter blushed slightly and scooted over subtly.
“Oh uh…good.” He said nervously. He glanced over at her and saw her frown a little and curl up on the couch. “I didn’t mean to uh-“ He stammered before swallowing his nerves down. “So, what do you need me to do while, I’m here? You said that you’d come up with something.” He said quietly trying to ease his nerves and maybe just change the subject.
“Umm…I don’t know. I’ll think of something tomorrow, if that’s okay. I’m kind of tired.” She said quietly.
“That’s fine.” Hunter said nervously. “Just pretend I’m not here. What do you usually do tonight?” He said hoping that she would say something relatively tame.
“I usually just order in and relax. With a movie or TV or something.” She said quietly. Hunter sighed, hoping that he hadn’t upset her.
“Well, let’s just do that. You relax. I’ll take care of everything else.” He said handing her the remote and standing up. He grabbed a blanket and handed it to her. She spread it out over her legs and turned on the TV.
“Thanks.” She said quietly as the doorbell rang. “Oh. The money for the pizza is on the table.” She said looking over the back of the couch and pointing toward the table. Hunter grabbed the money and answered the door.
“One pizza for-“ He said with a big grin before seeing Hunter at the door. “Oh.” He said his smile turning into a scowl. Hunter looked at him with a raised eyebrow. “One pizza.” He said bitterly as he handed her the pizza. Hunter took the pizza and handed him the money.
“Thanks, Darren.” Arabella said with a wave. ‘Darren’ stuck his head in the door. His smile returned.
“You’re welcome, Arabella!” He said, staring at her. Hunter cleared his throat. “Alright. Enjoy the pizza.” He said with a sneer as he walked out of the door. Hunter looked at Arabella who smiled at him and shrugged. Hunter shook his head and walked over to the table to set down the pizza. He spotted Arabella starting to get up.
“No, no, no. Stay there.” He said as he walked into the kitchen and grabbed 2 plates. He grabbed a few slices and put them on the plates, making sure to have more slices on his, just to make sure if she wanted more it would be readily available. He brought over the plates and handed her one. “There you go.” He said sitting down on the couch. “What are we watching?” He said taking a bite of pizza.
“Thanks. Uhh…Gossip Girl.” She said setting down the remote and picking up a slice of pizza.
“Oh. Huh.” He said looking at the screen. “She looks just like you.” He said with a shrug.
“Hmm. Yeah maybe a little.” She said taking a bite of pizza. “Be quiet though. It’s back.”
After a few random TV shows and most of a pizza, they fell asleep on the couch. Hunter had odd dreams that night. Mostly because of the pizza. He was fighting a giant cupcake with a slice of bacon when he woke up. His eyes blinked open and he felt the warmth in his side. He looked over to see Arabella leaning into him, completely asleep. He took a deep breath and carefully stood up. He bent down and picked her up. “Shh…” He said quietly as she let out a soft moan. He walked back into the hallways and found her room. He tucked her under the covers of the bed and looked down at her. “Good night, Arabella.” He said quietly as he brushed the hair out her face. He sighed and walked out of her room, gently closing the door behind him. He walked to the couch and laid down. He threw a blanket over himself. ‘What a day…’ He thought to himself as his eyes closed and he slowly drifted off to sleep.
