Chapter 11 - Arabella

Wow. That was the only word going through Arabella's mind. She tried to hide her giggles, for Hunter's sake. He looked so embarrassed and she didn't want to make it worse for him, but it was just too funny. These kinds of things only happen in the movies. Plus, after everything that had happened that day, she needed a good laugh. Arabella composed herself quickly though and she looked at Hunter, trying to act like that never happened.

"Your doctor said that whenever you're ready to go, you can go" Arabella said and placed his folded up clothes on the foot of his bed "I'll just go get a coffee or something while you change. I mean, it's nothing that I haven't seen before but I guess I can give you some privacy this time" she teased him and giggled when his cheeks turned red again. Arabella slipped out of the room, still giggling and closed the door behind her. She had already checked him out and cleared it with the staff at the hospital. When Hunter walked out of his room on weak legs, Arabella quickly went to his side to support him, putting her arm around his waist.

"I don't need help, I'm fine" Hunter grumbled but Arabella scoffed at him and kept walking. She didn't let go of him but she realized just how frail he was and it scared her. She could feel his ribs against her body and her arm could wrap around him more than it use to.

"Just be happy that I got them to let you walk out and not have you in a wheel chair" Arabella said and looked up at him "I can be very persuasive" she added with a little wiggle of her eyebrows. Arabella looked up at him, expecting him to laugh or anything. He used to tease her about stuff like that and he would chuckle at her little jokes, even if it was jsut to humour her. But she didn't even see a smile, nor a hint of one. She looked away with a lump in her throat. It had been too long since she heard his laugh. Arabella and Hunter walked out of the building together, into the warm sunlight. She easily hailed a cab and she helped Hunter inside. He wasn't bugging her about paying her back but Arabella knew that it was temporary, he was going to start nagging again. Now she was going to have to think up something for him to do. In all honesty, she just wanted him to be with her. How could she convince him of that through? All she wanted from him was to see him get better and to have him around for at least a little bit.

As they sat in the back of the cab, Arabella looked over at Hunter with a small smile on her face "Once we get home, I'll make some soup for you. And by make, I mean I'll order some soup from the take out place on 3rd" she said with a giggle. Again, she looked at him expectantly, hoping to see even the ghost of a smile, but there was nothing, he just kept looking out the window. With a sigh, Arabella turned her eyes to look out her window and watch Manhattan fly past.
Once they were back at her apartment, Arabella paid the taxi driver and slid out. In silence, Arabella and Hunter rode up the elevator to the top floor, where her home was. She realized just how tired she was when she saw her cozy couch and fluffly blanket. All she wanted to do was melt into the couch and sit with Hunter. Maybe they could talk together like they used to, maybe she could get ihm to smile. She locked the door behind Hunter then walked down to her bedroom.

"I'm going to change out of this dress!" She called back to him, pulling it off before she closed the door "Make yourself at home! There's lots of food in the fridge" With a sigh, she kicked off her high heels and pulled on a pair of short pajama shorts and a loose top. It was nice to finally be home. As she walked out of her room, she slipped into her slippers

"Are you going to tell me what happened to you?" she asked as she walked down the hall, pulling her hair out of the bun and letting the golden waves fall down her back
